Meridian Autonomic Testing or M.A.T. is a system developed by Frank and Matt Cuccolo, a father and son chiropractic team working out of CT who have studied muscle-testing systems, Chinese Medicine, Neurology and Bio-Chemistry for 30+ years.
There are a number of Applied Kinesiology (AK) or muscle-testing systems, many that borrow from the other and this is one of them, but it is an elegant and simple system that allows for the Practitioner to get straight-forward answers on the nutritional needs of the Patient in front of them.
In my Practice, I am attracted to results-driven systems and this is one of them. We use Standard Process Nutritional Supplements in our Practice (among other top-rated supplement companies) mainly because they use a proprietary whole foods extraction system which means you are getting complete nutrition, not fractionated supplements. They have their own organic farm where they grow everything they need (save a few outsourced organic products)!
The process of M.A.T. is simple. The Patient sits or stands in front of the Practitioner and once a muscle-lock is achieved, the Patient is tested for polarity and neurological switching, which simply means that they are testable. The Practitioner proceeds to test a series of points based on acupuncture channels and neuro-physiology that relate to the organ system. When there is a fault in the muscle to a particular organ or gland, related nutrition and it’s energy (resonant frequency) are brought into the Patient’s field and tested. If the muscle is able to lock, that nutrition is added to the protocol.
Any system should be used in addition to proper history and signs and symptoms to make a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. It is sound advice for any Practitioner to not get so myopic that we think we know what is going on, too quickly. Systems like M.A.T. allow us to remove our egos from the equation, if even briefly, to either validate or expose things we may have missed.
It is crucial to keep the big picture in mind and remember you are treating a Patient, not a diagnosis.
There may still be the need to ask questions “outside the scope” of the system, which means that the protocol may shrink or expand based on your findings. Remember, YOU, the Practitioner are the trained expert. Take care of your Patient’s particular needs to the best of your ability.
M.A.T. and Standard Process Nutrition, along with proper in-office mechanical and/or mind-body treatments and lifestyle changes have lead to incredible changes in very difficult chronic health issues. It is important that Patients stay the course. Most chronic health issues take 3-12 months of following a treatment plan before maintenance programs/treatments may be put into place.
